The following facts are referenced on this map: A wonderful art plate of the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park. The first sighting of the Grand Canyon was recorded by Garcia Lopez De Cardenas in 1540. As a great chasm, many others claimed it as a wonderous sight, including Jedediah Smith, a mountain man who glimpsed parts of it. It wasn't until 1858 that lieutenant Joseph Ives explored its lower depth in the steamship explorer that its true beauty was revealed. Then John Wesley Powells' expedition in a party of nine men left the green river in Wyoming to make an extensive exploration. Map Situated in: The State of Wyoming.
